The U.S. House, with the support of President Obama, has approved a plan to overhaul community colleges across the country and increase their global competitiveness. Part of this overhaul includes offering more programs and activities traditionally offered by bigger universities, including study abroad opportunities.

Feel like a Local

It seems like common sense … tourist attractions mean lots of tourists. These (often expensive) attractions are quintessential, but they’re nothing original. While you will still probably want to visit the landmarks that make your study abroad destination famous (why else would you have picked that particular city?), you can make the most of your trip by venturing off the tourist’s path. Studying abroad is the time to really immerse yourself in another culture and break away from the pack of American students who accompanied you on your abroad.
